02/11/2016 - Armistice Day Event at Donegal County Museum

Armistice Day Event at Donegal County Museum

Donegal County Museum invites you to an Armistice Day Event on Friday 11 November at 7pm to commemorate the signing of the armistice  between the Allies and Germany at Compiègne, France,  to end hostilities on the Western Front.  Although hostilities continued in some areas, the armistice essentially brought an end to four years of fighting in the First World War.  The armistice began at eleven o'clock in the morning—the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918.

At this event, Hillary Roulston will read one of her poems, taken from her forthcoming poetry collection,  a number of letters written in the trenches by Donegal Men will be read by the museum and  the 1916 film ‘The Battle of the Somme’ will be screened.  This will be your last opportunity to view the film in the county.  Donegal County Museum has worked in partnership with Imperial War Museums (IWM) as part of the First World War Centenary Partnership to screen ‘The Battle of the Somme’ film at venues across County Donegal.

All are welcome and refreshments will be served.

Admission to the event is free but places are limited and booking is required to Donegal County Museum, High Road, Letterkenny, Co Donegal. Email, [email protected] or Telephone 074 9124613
